My trip is not going terribly well so far. I lost my voice halfway through the first presentation yesterday. I’m coping, but it’s difficult.
I started okay yesterday morning, set up the machines, introduced the class, and then launched into my introduction presentation.
About halfway through the 90 minute presentation, I started feeling a bit croaky – which is not unusual, I often need to “clear out the cobwebs” during the first presentation, after which I’m fine. However, this time it got worse and worse to the point where I was speaking quite quietly. Fortunately it’s a fairly small classroom, and people said they had no problems hearing me.
Basically, I have come down with a bit of a head cold, and this is affecting my throat and voice.
Normally I would be teaching with Stuart and we would share the presentation load, but his daughter has a birthday today (I think), so he is not coming down to Melbourne until Wednesday. Justine is here with us to help with the labs, but she hadn’t prepared anything to be able to present in my place, so I was on my own for yesterday’s presentations.
Justine is doing two presentations this morning, which she was scheduled to do anyway, so at least I am fine until later in the day. My voice is a bit more croaky this morning, and I haven’t yet tried talking at an audible level for any length of time, so I’m not sure how I will go, but I will do my best.
