Warner Bros, Hollywood, LAX – SYD
Got up early this morning, had breakfast and then jumped in the car and drove a couple of miles across to Burbank, where we went on the Warner Bros VIP tour, which took us around the front and backlots of their studios there. We saw quite a lot of stuff, including the backlot sets for shows such as Gilmore Girls, saw some preparation for filming for and episode of Cold Case, and learned a lot of trivia about various shows and how / where they were shot.
Quite a fascinating tour, although we would have liked to see a lot more of the front lot stuff – the sound stages in use for various shows – especially Everybody Loves Raymond (which has now finished), and The West Wing (which they were filming in – closed set, so we couldn’t visit).
Tour went for just over 2 hours, and at the end we headed back to our hotel, finished packing, relaxed for a bit, checked out, packed the car, and then wandered up the road to Hollywood Blvd.
We spent the rest of the afternoon wandering along the Hollywood Walk of Fame, identifying stars we knew on the sidewalk and looking through various tourist shops and such. Visited the Hollywood Wax Museum too.
Finally headed back to the hotel to collect the car, drove back to LAX (to Hertz actually), dropped off the car, hopped the Hertz bus around to the terminals, checked in, and have been hanging out in the first class club lounge here waiting for our flight home.
While waiting for our flight here, I noticed Verne Troyer (aka Mini Me from Austin Powers) sitting in the lounge waiting for a flight. This lead me to ponder at how wrong it would be for someone 2′ 8″ tall (0.81m) to take up an entire first class seat !! :D
Anyway, we’ll be on the 11:45pm flight to Sydney – after such a long period away, I’m quite looking forward to getting home.
I might make a final blog entry from home tomorrow – just to close off this trip report.
Now I just have to spend some time getting the photos up to date – there are several thousand of them to go through !! I’ll post about them once I’ve uploaded them.
