My parents flew to Sydney (at short notice) back on the 13th of February, to help us get ready for our trip – mostly by looking after Andres and keeping him entertained while we are busy with paperwork and packing.
My Dad needed to fly back home on the 22nd to start work – he’s lecturing part-time at Tabor College in Adelaide, but Mum was able to stay an extra week or so to help out, which was really useful. It was also great for her to have some time alone with Andres so they could bond – normally Andres prefers playing with his Grandad, who hasn’t lost any of his skill at entertaining young kids (he was a junior primary teacher for many years before retiring).
When I dropped my Mum off at the airport to fly home this morning, I was a bit emotional to see her go – it’s been so helpful to have her stay so long (nearly 3 weeks!) and she has had so much fun with Andres, I know he’s going to miss her.
Fortunately for him, later the same day, Leanne’s parents arrived from Adelaide. They drove over and will stay for a few weeks to help out as well – again, especially looking after Andres to free us up to concentrate on getting ready for the trip (and for a new baby in the house!).
We are very fortunate to have two sets of grandparents who are able to travel to stay with us and help like this – it has made such a difference.
I think once they’ve all gone home, we’ll have to pick up our game a bit – he’s become used to having so much attention, he will be quite demanding I feel. At least he’ll get a lot of attention from us while we are away – although he will have to share that attention with his baby sister!
