I’ve been tidying up my desk a bit – paying bills and getting the accounts in order.
Something that came in a couple of weeks ago but sat in the middle of a pile of paperwork and bills was the latest newsletter from Médecins Sans Frontières Australia (Doctors Without Borders) which is one of the charitable organisations we support financially.
I took the time to read through the newsletter, something I had been avoiding. The stories in there are quite gut-wrenching … makes you realise just how much pain and suffering is out there in the world and how incredibly lucky we are here in Australia to live in a country without fear of war, famine, disease and the extreme poverty that affect so many regions of the world.
I urge everyone to take the time to read through the information on their website and consider subscribing to their regular newsletters and perhaps even donate some money. These people do some amazing things in some incrediby adverse areas and deliberately do not take funding from any governments to maintain their independent status and attempt to avoid any political influence in their work. In this way that they are granted access to some of the areas of the world which many other aid organisations are kept out of because of the political issues that it would create.
