6am – 8am
Set an alarm to wake us up in time to shower before breakfast.
Another lovely breakfast – another sunrise. Lovely views of the Avon river.
Head back to room after breakfast and finish packing bags.
8am – 9am
Sit on the bed together watching the wonderful scenery go by as we follow the Avon river down.
Quarantine inspectors join us just out of Perth to make sure nobody is bringing any undesirable items into the state.
Eventually pull into East Perth station, gather our bags and get off the train. It’s all over so quickly – we don’t even have time to mourn for the end of the journey.
I really enjoyed the trip – it is so relaxing, and very interesting to see a different side of things from what you would see if you drove from Sydney to Perth. We have already decided we will do the reverse trip sometime and also the Adelaide/Alice Springs/Darwin trips on the Ghan too. Naturally, we have spoiled it for ourselves now and we could only ever do it in a Gold Kangaroo Deluxe cabin !
