On one of the days we were away in South Australia we felt like going for a drive – we drove down to Meadows for morning tea at the bakery there (yummy!) and then continued to Strathalbyn, where we sat by the river and watched the ducks. We started getting hungry for some lunch, so decided to head down to Goolwa for fish and chips by the beach. We didn’t quite make it to the beach, instead opting to sit in a park by the river (although technically I guess it is part of Lake Alexandrina since we are upstream from the Goolwa barrage).
While Leanne and Andres played on the playground, I took the opportunity to do some photography.

I think you are right. I zoomed in on my original photos and looked more closely at the eye – the description in the field guide made mention of the differences in the eyes, and I think this was very likely a Great Egret – I’ve changed the description. Thanks!

Not sure about the “Cattle” Egret – looks a bit too large – more likely a Great Egret. They can be frustrating to ID at times.
