I have been meaning to write about the end of our trip to Melbourne weekend before last.
We finished the class around 1pm on Friday, Stuart raced off to the airport to get home to see his family, while I headed over to Hertz to pick up a car for the weekend. After dropping my stuff off at the hotel and getting changed, I drove out to Melbourne Zoo to meet up with Leanne who had been there since earlier in the day. We spent a couple of hours enjoying the sunshine and the sights and sounds of the zoo, before leaving to see some friends of ours for dinner.
On Saturday we were originally thinking of going to Werribee Zoo, but we realised that without the 35mm camera and the telephoto lens, there wasn’t much point going to an open range zoo. Leanne wanted to go for a drive through the Dandenongs, so we decided to head up to Belgrave and go for a ride on Puffing Billy – the old steam train. It was a lot of fun and a very pleasant way to spend a hot day.
Saturday night we got room service and watched the Wallabies masacre the All Blacks in the Rugby World Cup semi final, then sunday morning we wandered into town to see the Myer Christmas displays (this years story was The Grinch), followed by a walk around the city area, checking out the incredibly ugly federation square buildings and then strolling through the southbank markets. Finally we packed up and drove out to the airport to catch our flight home.
Was a very pleasant trip – and it was great to have Leanne there to spend the weekend with me.
I’ll upload some photos to the gallery when I get a chance.
I’ll also write a bit more about our trip to the zoo on the ZooBeat Forums
