While in school I worked for a few years as a service station attendant at the BP in Murray Bridge. It was on the main busy intersection in the middle of town, so we got quite busy – especially on Friday and Saturday nights (my main shifts), and even more so on Saturday and Sunday mornings when people brought their ski boats down from Adelaide for a day on the river.
It was a self-service station, so I was mostly manning the console and stocking shelves, but it was interesting and a lot of people I knew came through the place buying petrol or just milk and such (or buying oil to do burnouts down by the river on a Saturday night!).
Note the price of petrol back then!

This is now a Woolworths petrol outlet. It is just as busy as ever – even more so with the discount vouchers.
