My mobo was doa.
I’m pretty annoyed, as I was all excited about having my new machine and getting to build it.
After a couple of hours of careful construction, I push the power switch and… nothing !
Not a thing – the fans and peripherals fired up, so power was okay, but there was no signal from the video card and no POST beeps.
After a bit of fiddling, I eventually pulled the motherboard (mobo) out of the case, removed everything except the memory, CPU and video card and powered it on. Still nothing. I tried a different video card. Nothing. I pulled the CPU out of my existing machine and installed it on the new mobo. Nothing. I pulled one of the memory modules out of my existing machine and tried it in each of the slots in turn. Still nothing. The mobo was simply not responding.
I had read about some people having similar problems with this particular model on the internet. The general consensus was that once you had tried all these things and still wasn’t getting any signal at all from the board that it was dead, and needs to be sent back and replaced.
After a discussion with the people I bought it from over the phone, they agreed that it sounded DOA, and so arranged for me to send it back. I will probably drive it over tomorrow afternoon and get it swapped directly – save waiting for couriers or post both ways.
*sigh*
So close, yet so far !
If it was faulty memory, I could use some of the memory from my existing machine to at least give me the chance to get the new machine set up and start the software installing. Same with CPU, or just about any other component. But the mobo is basically a must-have item, so there’s nothing much more to do but wait until I can get a new board.
*sigh*
