Where’d all these people come from ?

The Somersoft Property Investors Forum has been growing, and fairly rapidly. We have been watching the measure of “most users ever online” (at one time), and using this as a measure for the growth in popularity.
I came home from my trip to Melbourne this afternoon to find that our previous record of 109 users had been totally smashed…
Most users ever online was 143 on 04-07-2003 at 04:34 PM
And what’s more, it’s now after 9:30pm, on a Friday night what’s more – and we’re still over the old record mark at around 115 users.
What’s going on ? Has someone been advertising ? Maybe it’s too cold out or something ?
I find this huge jump curious – but satisfying !!

Unfortunately I have discovered that the large increase in the numbers of users was not a result of a sudden interest in the forum – it was in fact a web crawler.
The somersoft.com forum is currently being indexed by the inktomi bots – they are crawli…
